Spin & Swim!

After my 30-mile week last week (still so excited, woo!), I decided to take it easy from running this week! Today I did some spinning and swimming. It's been way too long since I've been on a spin bike, I missed it! I finally found a spin bike in our gym that's just like the one we have at home. Check it out!

I did my 25-minute spin workout from Youtube and then did an hour in the pool. I'm always exhausted and starving when I'm in the pool for so long! It felt great though (and refreshing after spinning in the hot gym).

Saw these curious indo-row machines…I've heard a lot about them and the classes that people do with them but they're still strange to me. I prefer a regular erg!

Random, but I like this view of the new landscaping/architecture on campus. That in the distance is my old dorm from last year!

Beautiful.

The free hot apple cider that a student org was giving away the other day made my week! Perfect solution to cold raininess!

I did it! and cold weather running.

First thing's first… I know I promised pictures of our Halloween costumes and talked a lot about how awesome it was going to be…but there was a bit of a wardrobe malfunction (actually a big time wardrobe malfunction) and we ended up going at a 1920s couple instead.

Yesterday morning (Sunday) I woke up pretty early and went on a run, completing my 30-mile week! To me it doesn't seem like it should be too difficult, but 30 miles a week is tough! I'm really proud of myself for doing that. I don't think I'm at a place with my running where doing 30 miles a week would be beneficial or too smart, but I just wanted to do it as a sort of challenge. In reality, my legs need a little bit more rest and cross-training. It was really fun to do it and enjoy the fall weather this week though.

When I headed out early on Sunday morning, it was beautiful but it was only 30 degrees! For the first time this fall, I headed out in my "cold weather running" gear, which included running tights, a light running jacket, technical turtleneck, gloves, and ear warmer. I was a little bit over dressed actually, but since I wasn't going for a longer run I just wanted to be comfortable for the majority of it - which was definitely cold. When I got back I was sweaty!
Looking ahead at this week I'm hoping to do a mix of running and swimming. Getting in the chilly pool is tougher than going out in the cold for a run…but once I get in the swing of it I usually am okay.

Have a good week!

Weather and other news.

This popped up in my newsfeed from Brooks running. This jogging pumpkin was too cute not to share.

My day yesterday started out pretty early in the lab! On the way there I saw that yesterday was the day every year that each branch of the military represented on campus run ALL day carrying flags. They take shifts, of course, but carry on, rain or shine! Yesterday was DEFINITELY rain.

Then I found the source of the candy that's always on the table in the lab…

Despite all the drizzles, I headed out for a run. It looked cold outside, but was actually in the low 60s so all of the wet wasn't too bad. I was DRENCHED by the end of my 5 miles, even though I had on my rain coat.

I went out and found the Halloween house again. Despite all of the rain, their decorations were still going! I managed to take a much better picture.

This was the scariest part of my Halloween…

This morning when I woke up, it was like an entirely different planet! The sun was shining, there was no wind, and it looked like the days of storms had never touched campus.

The view from my window.

I started my day with a 4.5-mile run, bringing my weekly mileage up to 28 miles! That's the most I've ever run in 1 week (to my knowledge!). I think tomorrow I'll get in those 2 miles to bring it to 30 but then I need a break - my legs are definitely pretty tired out. At any rate, I have a lot of swimming to work on if I want to make it to Turkey!

Tulip leaves on my run reminded me of my yard at home!

Still to come…our Halloween costumes! Hoping they turn out pretty well!
